The Basketry Donates $13,000 of Clothes, Shoes, and Accessories to Local Battered Women’s Shelter

LULING, La. - June 22, 2022 - The Basketry donated $13,000 of clothes, shoes, and accessories to create a sponsored closet at the St. Charles Parish Battered Women’s Shelter.

This project was envisioned by the team’s gift concierge, Ashley Cole, to provide clothes for women that will bring confidence and spark to their lives. Kristi Brocato, owner of The Basketry, helped make the vision come to life. When asked about her contribution, Brocato said, “It feels amazing to know that we are helping so many women feel joy, self-worth, and beauty after experiencing some of the worst pain and heartache of their lives. We are making a real difference, and that feels great.”

The Basketry held a one day sale and all clothes that were not sold were donated to the shelter. The closet was created with more than 200 items of clothes, 20 pairs of shoes, and accessories, all donated by The Basketry. The closet will continue to grow as time continues and the store collects more clothes for donation. Cole hopes to bring her vision to the “next level” by encouraging other local boutiques to donate to the shelter.

The Basketry’s goal for the closet is to help women feel confident, safe, and comfortable in their own skin. Helping these women feel empowered can tremendously impact their lives in a time where they are vulnerable or in-need of emotional support.

Kristi and her team at The Basketry are devoted to helping the women and children in our community, and they look forward to a continued relationship with the shelter.

Ashley Cole, the team member who initiated the donation idea volunteers and often does community outreach to support the shelter. On June 3, 2022, Cole was recognized with an award of appreciation for her dedication to women. This was in recognition of the time she has dedicated to positively impacting the lives of women and children who rely on the shelter for several different needs.

The Basketry sponsored one of our storage closets. Incoming clients will have access to clean, fashionable clothing & accessories.
Often times, clients are able to leave their abusers with some belongings. Other times, there's no time to pack.
Thank you so much for this kind gesture & your continued support💜💜💜
